While making a hanging mobile for his young daughter, artist/sculptor David Thompson discovered this very unusual illusion. He twisted a small piece of copper wire into a spiral, placed a small marble in the spiral, hung the spiral with the marble from the mobile, and, as David says "out of the corner of my eye I saw something unusual happening". That was the beginning of the twister. Very excited, he then started experimenting with various gauges of copper and other sizes of marbles. With input from his wife and of course his young daughter, Megan, and with encouragement from his and his wife's parents, David developed the "Mystic Twister®™". He wisely retained patent attorneys and protected his discovery from duplication. While his parents were visiting David and his family at Thanksgiving, he encouraged his Dad (Ed Thompson) to make a twister. From there Dad, the computer guy and business manager for his wife, Carol Thompson, was hooked. "It was irresistable, a medium where I became an artist for the first time" says Dad. With David's permission and encouragement, Dad became the only other person who is authorized to create twisters. Having applied his own ideas, and using many of David's (the real artist) ideas, Dad, with creative input from his wife (another real artist), has created a selcetion of twisters that they market at arts and crafts shows and now this internet site. From being a starving artist in
the beginning of 2003, to having a continually growing staff, David is
now able to provide for his family in a very comfortable manner doing what
he loves to do, being an artist. He has earned the respect of family
and friends and no one is telling him to "go get a real job" anymore.
Dad is having the time of his life, learning what being an artist is all
about, and Dad's wife Carol (the real artist), is also having the time
of her life and is learning to support her husband from a business perspective.
