| "Winter High Tide"
"The air is crisp and clear as a late afternoon sun glints upon the waves crashing against an offshore rock. Though apparently serene, there is an undercurrent of power in the beauty of a 'winter high tide'"
ARTIST COMMENT In this small oil painting on stretched canvas, I show the true color of the translucent water at the top of a rising wave about to break. From my direct observations of the sea at the shorelines of the Pacific Northwest, I have determined that the sunlight at different times of day affect the colors of the water. This scene is just before sundown, and as the sun sinks lower, the light shining through the top of the waves appears as amber toned. The angle of light on the splashing foam is accurately rendered to add to the feeling of late afternoon on a rare sunny winter day.
