"'The headland' extends its' rocky finger out into the sapphire sea at midday on the Oregon coast at Depoe Bay. The ocean is calm and a misty fog bank hangs steady on the horizon."
ARTIST COMMENT
For many years, I was represented by the a gallery in Depoe Bay, Oregon. At the request of the owner, I painted a series of locale scenes in pastel on high quality Canson Mi-Teintes paper. One familiar scene is the headland that extends out to sea just north of town. Here, waves crash against the rocks, roll back to meet the next incoming breaker, and create some magnificent wave action. This scene is a relatively calm Spring day, with the shadow of a rain squall off in the distance. I chose pastel for this subject, because of the vibrancy of the medium, and the short time span alloted to me to complete the project.
