| "Spindrift"
"Waves rush toward shore. Storm clouds
dissolve
on the horizon. A soft breeze gently curls misty 'spindrift' off
the peaks of dancing foam. The Pacific ocean on a midsummer morning
is the perfect place to spend your leisure time."
ARTIST COMMENT This is the sea at Yaquina Head Lighthouse, north of Newport, Oregon. When my sons were young, our family frequently visited the lighthouse. We would carefully make our way down the then steep rickety wooden steps to the rocky beach below the headland. As the waves rolled in, an offshore breeze blew the tops of the splashing waves into a misty spray known as spindrift. The calmness of the foreground sea and blue sky as indicated in the painting, sets the mood for the smooth face of the advancing wave. I wanted to show that magical moment just before the wave breaks with a roar and the calmness becomes chaos. To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
