| "Rialto Beach"
"The morning sun dispels the remaining whisps
of fog far down the coast of Washington at 'Rialto Beach'. twin rocks loom
in grandeur as the sun-kissed surf gently washes upon grey, reflective
sand. Have you seen such beauty as this? It awaits you at 'Rialto Beach'."
ARTIST COMMENT This is the second in a series of oil paintings of the winter season on the Pacific Ocean coastline of Washington, Oregon, and California. I used a palette knife to show the rugged texture of the stack rocks at Shi Shi Beach on the Olympic Peninsula. When I visited the location with my family, I was intrigued by the way the waves rolled up almost silvery blue-white onto the black sand of the beach. As most of my seascapes, this oil is on stretched canvas. As a traditionalist, I like the feel and "bounce" of stretched canvas, especially when I am using a palette knife.
