| "Pounding Wave"
"The Pacific Ocean on the Northwest coast
is beautiful but treacherous. On grey windy days such as this, the 'pounding
waves' beat against unyielding offshore rock formations in a spectacular
display"
ARTIST COMMENT The simplicity of this composition makes it one of my favorite paintings, and it is one of the most popular of my seascape prints. I emphasized the brilliance of the translucent waves by making the rock and sky dark with just a hint of sunlight . Even the deep water is intensified by the brighter blue-white of the floating foam. The Oregon coast, as usual, was my inspiration for this small oil on stretched canvas. The offshore volcanic rocks meet the head-on assault of the tumbling breakers with an unyeilding strength. That metaphor is the embodiment of my life philosophy. To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
