"Neptune Rules The Deep"

"Neptune rules the deep. His mighty trident stirs the sea. Seafarers tremble at the power and majestic beauty of the troubled depths. Even the heavens seem to respond to the turbulence with rolling, hurrying clouds. Be of good cheer. Calm shall soon be restored as the Roman God of the sea is placated and returns to his throne beneath the waves."

ARTIST COMMENT
This was the first large oil painting I did depicting the stormy skies and rolling waves of a dark wintery day on the Pacific Nothwest coast.  The title was inspired by the legendary image of the mythical god Neptune, stirring the waters with his mighty trident.  Even the colors of blue and purple contribute to the feeling of chill in the air.  The waves crashing against the unyielding rock symbolize the strength of fortitude against constant assault of negative forces.  I chose a realistic approach to the painting using smooth brushwork in the water, and palette knife on the rocks to enhance their rugged appearance.
