| "Midwinter Day"
"Cold rain threatens as clouds gather on the horizon. The wind is driving huge waves onto the rocks on a 'midwinter day'."
ARTIST COMMENT A winter day on the Pacific Northwest coast of Oregon is an exciting adventure for ocean lovers. I paint this season frequently. Often, the sky is overcast with several layers of clouds, as the wind pushes rolling breakers with great force against rocks and cliffs. Crashing high waves become crowns of billowing foam. Using palette knife on the rocks, and brush strokes on the rest of this small oil on stretched canvas, I chose a color scheme of deep greens, greys and blues to emphasize the cold chill of the air and the feeling of iminent rain shivering you to the bone. The brilliant white of the tossing foam tells you the sun in still trying to shine. The scene is a composite of the many places that I visited in the last thirty (plus) years of traveling and painting the sea. To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
