"High Splash"

"Capturing the drama of a 'high splash' against an unyeilding rock, the mood of this painting is turbulent, yet compelling, as if drawing you in; to imagine, to feel, the spray from a 'high splash'."

ARTIST COMMENT
It is seldom that I repeat a scene, for variety keeps my artistic temperament stimulated.  However, the setting of this oil on stretched canvas is so appealing to me, that I return again and again to watch the wave action.  And, I am compelled to paint the many moods that present themselves to me, at various times of the day, under varying weather conditions.  It is a quiet place on the Oregon coast near Yachats.  But, since the Pacific Northwest holds many such offshore monoliths,  your favorite place may be anywhere you care to stop.  Since the subject is the rock formation, I used a palette knife to convey the hard, rugged shapes.  Then the splash was stroked on with a brush, and the floating foam added with a small, fine-bristled brush for detail.  I chose "cold" colors to indicate a winter day.
