"As I watch the waves come in from my safe spot on the shore, I notice that every seventh wave appears larger than the rest. 'Here comes a big one'. It is number seven."
Artist comment: "This square canvas was a challenge. I finally decided to focus on one major breaking swell, with translucency and roll-over. The spindrift is blowing on an offshore breeze and the mood is exciting. A wonderful day at the beach! I sketched the design elements with gray oil, then began painting the sky and background water. Next I rendered the dark green foreground, working toward the translucency. When the dark paint was slightly 'set', I articulated the foam patterns, then finished with the spray and highlights."
