"Skies promise rain as dark rocks loom from a blanket of misty fog. Waves break near shore in a momentary glow of color on a 'grey day'."
ARTIST COMMENT
A grey day is typical of fall and winter on the Pacific Coast of Washington and Oregon. This scene was inspired by the stacks of rocks near Bandon, Oregon. It was so darkly overcast that no sun shone on the sea, yet, the brilliance of the floating foam and splashes seemed to have a light of their own. The black rocks were painted with a palette knife to indicate the sharp ruggedness of the volcanic flow from prehistoric volcanos. By using cool green in the waves, the whole scene is one of a cold winter day.
