"December Day"

"'December Day' is a typical scene along the Pacific Northwest Coast, with the waves crashing onto high rocky cliffs, the air heavy with rain, and seagulls making a final sweep of their feeding grounds before settling in to await the approaching storm."

ARTIST COMMENT
This is an oil painting of the typical weather on the Northwest Pacific coast of Oregon.  the sky is grey and seagulls are flying over the waves to search for a morsel of food before the storm breaks.  I wanted to convey the feeling of wind and cold as the splash breaks and runs in rivulets over the volcanic rock.  If you look closely, you will see a hint of a rainbow in the mist as the sun begins to disappear in the approaching clouds.  When I began this piece, I had a certain idea in mind, yet, I was unable to make it work.  So, I put it aside for a year, and then took another look at it.  I was able to make a few changes and finish the foreground.  It has become one of my best selling limited edition prints.
