| "Day's Last Glow"
"As the sun begins its descent into the
Pacific Ocean, a bank of clouds begins to move across the sky. The sea
hurls itself against unyielding rocks. A breaker rolls into a translucent
peak. The foam, ripples, and surface of the sea reflect the colors of the
'Day's Last Glow'."
ARTIST COMMENT The first in a series of sunset limited editions, the setting of this oil painting on stretched canvas, is Fogarty Creek, on the Oregon Coast between Lincoln City and Depoe Bay. At full tide, the rocks are nearly surounded by water, depending on the time of year. The colors of this sunset is a romanticized version of the scene, as I have not had the opportunity to stay and watch the sun go down, here, at this particular wayside. (I HAVE seen numerous, hauntingly beautiful sunsets elsewhere on the coast.) The rocks are painted with palette knife, the rest with smooth brush strokes. I chose vibrant warms and soft cool colors to dramatize the awesome event of the last rays of sun on the clouds and water. The original painting is owned by a collector in California.
