This detailed view shows the ruggedness of the stack rock in the painting. The rock was painted entirely with a palette knife thus enhancing the sharp edges and overall feeling of sturdy, unyielding strength. Subtle colors in the shadowed areas were brushed on later to indicate reflected light. Highlights were added as a finishing touch to show the intense glow of the sunlight on the wet rock. |
