| DAY'S
END
"At the 'day's end', the ocean becomes lit with the glow of the sun. Warm colors illuminate rocks, clouds and water as the beauty beckons you to linger." The Oregon coast has numerous rock stacks caused by volcanic flows eons ago. This scene is typical of the headlands, rocks, and wave action of the shorelines there. Carol spends as much time as possible studying the water, skies, and moods of the sea. This painting is a result of one special day as she observed the luminous quality of the atmosphere while the sun was slowly setting.
ARTIST COMMENT This is one of my favorite paintings. The colors are soft and warm; a reminder of a summer sunset on the beach. The Oregon coast has numerous stack rocks offshore. This scene, an oil painting on stretched canvas, is typical of the headlands, rocks, and wave action of the shorelines there. In this instance, the dark rock looms large against the colorful sky. The shadows as well as the reflections make an interesting pattern on the wet beach. I like the interplay of salmon and gold with the blues and purples in the sea and sky. The painting is quite large to fully express the magnificence of the coastline, and the limitless expanse of the ocean. To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
