| "Haystack At Noon"
"You have been on the seashore at Cannon Beach, Oregon, U.S.A. all morning and have enjoyed the sand, driftwood, sunshine, and gentle breezes. It is now time to take a lunch break, watch the people and enjoy 'Haystack Rock at noon'."
ARTIST COMMENT Spending an entire day at Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, Oregon, is a delightful experience. It doesn't matter what the weather is like, there is always the commanding presence of "the rock". I have sketched it, photographed it, painted it with oil and watercolor, and generally have come to know the character of it. This small oil painting on stretched canvas, is a favorite of mine. I am especially pleased by the flow of small stones on the beach that lead the eye to the center of interest. Then there is the vibrant blue of the sky, contrasted with the deep, rich brown in the rocks. The flash of white is just enough to keep the setting light and the mood cheerful. The figures at the tideline are the "icing on the cake". To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
