"Last Rays Of Day"

"The huge Haystack Rock near Cannon Beach, Oregon, U.S.A., is silhouetted against a vivid explosion of color as the 'last rays of day' light up the sky.  It is awesome Nature at her best for beach walkers to enjoy."

ARTIST COMMENT
This small watercolor on 140# hot-pressed high quality Arches watercolor paper, was one of the first in a series I did of the Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, Oregon.  I had been studying ocean sunsets, and this was a perfect opportunity to employ what I had learned.  I guess I went a little overboard with the vibrant colors, but that is how I remembered it.  And, it works because of the deep rich brown of the rocks.  The bright rays of sun were painted to act as a counterpoint to the shape of the haystack rock.  The brightest brights and the darkest darks are always the center of interest, which again draws your eye to the Haystack Rock.
