| "Haystack Rock At Cannon Beach"
"On Oregon's northern coast, just offshore,
stands one of the most recognized and popular 'seastacks'. At low
tide it connects to the beach. At high tide, 'Haystack Rock At Cannon
Beach' is viewed with awe and wonder as waves roll in and crash around
the mighty rock and its' lesser companions."
ARTIST COMMENT In this watercolor, created as a companion piece for "Cannon Beach Panorama", The view of this famous rock is from the northern end of the beach. Using Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper, I was able to convey the depth of darks in the rock, and the intensity of blue in the sky. I was intrigued by the mantle of soft green growth on it's top. It looks somewhat like the mighty rock is decked out in a woolen cap. The size of the monolith is accurately portrayed, as noted by the miniature figures at its base, just in the flowing surf. The composition is an elongated "Z" of sky, sea and sand.
