"One of the many commanding, awesome views
of Haystack Rock can be seen from along the highway south of Cannon Beach,
Oregon. Here the mighty monolith can be seen framed by wind-sculpted
evergreen trees on a misty summer day."
ARTIST COMMENT From highway 101 on the Oregon coast at Cannon Beach, Haystack Rock looms large and dominates the scene. On a misty summer day, I stopped at a view point south of the city, and researched the rock and far-away hills. Trees framed the the picturesque seastack. In this watercolor painting on 140# Arches watercolor paper, I focused on the mood of the day. It was misty, warm and quiet. The muted colors convey that image, and the accent of deep green trees bring contrast to the gentle theme. To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
