| "Misty Day - Ecola Park"
"The air is filled with a touch of fine mist at Ecola Park, near Cannon Beach, Oregon. Haystack Rock appears in the distance as the heavy skies clear and the day brightens."
ARTIST COMMENT Haystack Rock is seen in this view from Ecola Park, north of Cannon Beach, Oregon. The distant hills were painted in soft green and purple to enhance the feeling of great distance. That also plays up the darker brown of the looming rock. I used a "C" composition that leads the eye from the dark rock in the right foreground, across the bottom of the painting, to the stretch of sand that then leads you to the haystack rock, the tree, and back to the beginning again. The media is watercolor on 140# hot-pressed Arches watercolor paper. To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
