| "At Cannon Beach"
"At Cannon Beach, Oregon, you are likely to find lots of sand; piles of driftwood; eager, hungry seagulls; friendly people; endless sea; and the huge monolith rock known as Haystack Rock."
ARTIST COMMENT The Haystack at Cannon Beach, Oregon, dominates the scene from north or south along the long stretch of sandy beach. This small watercolor painting on Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper, is the view as you enter the park from the downtown approach to the beach. I washed the sky with a deep blue, intending to give the appearance of nearly disappearing fog at the horizon. The angle of the sand was employed to draw your eye into the painting, catch the intense blue of the sea, then go directly to the rock which is the center of interest.
