| "Lone Tree At Ecola Park"
"North of Cannon Beach, Oregon is Ecola Park where the panoramic view is breathtaking. Looking southward, a lone tree frames the famous Haystack Rock and ocean beyond."
ARTIST COMMENT As you enter Cannon Beach, Oregon from the north, you will see a sign directing you to Ecola Park. From this lofty vista on a high headland, all of the rocks offshore are plainly visible, with Haystack Rock dominating the scene. Even with the windblown tree as the center of interest, there is no doubt about the location in this watercolor painting on 140# Arches hot-pressed watercolor paper. It is an early Spring day, with the grass and shrubs in the foreground beginning to show bright green, while the distant hills take on a misty dream-like quality. The composition is a departure from my usual style, yet the inverted "T" is an exceptional form of painting a secondary subject, (the rock), to bring it into focus.
