| "Break In The Storm"
"Late on a winter day as the sun begins to lower in the Western sky, the storm clouds part and rays of sunshine pour through to spotlight a rolling wave. Tomorrow will be a brighter day as promised by this 'break in the storm'."
ARTIST COMMENT While spending time on the Oregon coast one fine winter day, I stopped at a wayside to stretch and watch the water. Suddenly the sun broke through the clouds just as an incoming breaker rose and crested. The "spotlight" of sunshine hit the wave, lighting it up and magnifying the beautiful translucent top of the spill. In that instant I saw the rays of sunlight aganst the dark clouds. I reached for my camera and waited for the next wave to come in. The sun disappeared and the phenomenon never did repeat itself. But, it was locked in my memory. This is the scene, in oil on stretched canvas, as I remember it. This painting was loaned to Senator Daniel J. Evans of Washington State, and hung in his office in Washington D.C. for the duration of his tenure. To learn more about the artist "painting the sea", please click here.
