"It is a magical moment to stand on the shore of the Pacific Ocean and see the sky and sea light up with color ‘as the sun goes down’."

Artist comment:  "It seems as though the last bit of clouds is melting away and the sun pops out to reveal a wonderful display of color. I wanted to render an oil painting with the vivid color of opposites as seen in nature. Here I took the opportunity to pit orange against purple as the primary scheme. I painted the sky first, bringing the color down into the small pools of open water. Then with purple, I worked in the rest of the sea and foam. I then painted the deep green pools, the lighter color of the translucency, and the highlights on the wave and splash. With a palette knife, I did the rocks. When the rocks were dry, I put the run-off on and completed any little squiggles of floating foam. The pure white of the sun and white ‘spritzes’ of spray were last -- the ‘icing on the cake!’."

"As The Sun Goes Down" is a limited edition, giclée print from an original oil painting by Carol Thompson.  The edition includes 3600 authorized, signed, limited edition prints (3500 numbered and 100 artist proofs).  Release date is October 2011.  Image size and substrates vary.  All prints are signed and numbered by the artist and include a certificate of authenticity.   Paper prints are shrink wrapped on foam board.   Canvas prints are coated with a protective spray.
