"Above The Tide"

"Streaks of rain are beginning to fill the sky as cold choppy waves churn and crash against the rocks of this coastal headland.  'Above the tide', circling seagulls make a last flight before the storm breaks."

ARTIST COMMENT
One of my favorite places is the headland near Yaquina Head, on the Oregon coast.  Here the waves crash and roll with incredible force.  This is especially true on windy, stormy days.  This oil painting on canvas recalls to remembrance an exciting moment in time when swell after swell rushed against the black volcanic rocks.  Seagulls whirl above looking for a place to shelter-in at the approach of inclement weather.  Typical of my realistic renderings of the sea, the water and sky are painted with smooth brush strokes, and the headland and rocks are captured with palette knife to enhance the ruggedness of the volcanic flow.
