Artist comment:  "The Great Blue Heron is a distinguished looking bird. It has been my pleasure to observe them flying, nesting, and spending time on beach or pond searching for sustenance. This beautiful specimen was captured by photograph on a beach in Florida, where it was spending its winter. (As was I!) In my studio later, I recreated the scene to depict the dignity and calm patience of a magnificent bird. By showing the stretch of beach before it, it seems to make its vigil even more solitary. The warmth of the day and the sounds of the surf are a pleasant memory that I hope comes though in this oil painting on canvas."
