| "The Lighthouse
On Heceta Head"
"The early morning sunshine competes with the brilliance of the light that shines from the 'lighthouse on Heceta Head'. The setting is warm with a luminous glow lighthing up the scene. It looks like we are in for a perfect Northwest day."
ARTIST COMMENT This gouache painting on Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper is the third rendering I have done of this ever popular lighthouse. Each new painting is different from the last. On a recent trip along the Oregon coast, I was fortunate to see the early morning light strike the buildings and tower with a luminous brilliance. I immediately made quick sketches and notes, and photographed the scene with my digital camera. Later, in my studio, I painted the lighthouse with gouache, relying on this medium to capture the glow that I was so impressed with.
