"The Coquille river in Bandon in South Central Oregon, is the site of this small, uniquely shaped lighthouse. Before being abondoned by the Coast Guard in 1939, the lighthouse served both as a seacoast beacon and harbor entrance at what some pilots and navigators consider Oregon's most dangerous bar." |
Artist comment:
"A bright overcast day is the mood of this painting of an unusual little lighthouse. The light, like most beacons today, is automated, and the interior of the building has been turned into a museum of marine-related memorabilia. I chose to depict the scene in quiet tones to show the loneliness of the location on the banks of the Coquille River on the Oregon coast. My challenge was to depict the grays and yet have enough filtered sunlight. With oil on canvas, I first sketched the composition, then painted the sky, grass, and foreground water. After painting the buildings, I finished with the windows and the lens in the tower."

"Bandon Lighthouse" is a limited edition, giclée
print from an original oil painting by Carol Thompson. The edition
includes 2050 authorized, signed, limited edition prints (2000 numbered
and 50 artist proofs). Originally the edition was released as photolithographs in April 1989 on 80 pound Curtis Brightwater Cover paper (neutral ph)
and discontinued in September 2009. The remainder of the edition was released in April 2011 as archival giclee prints in a variety of image sizes and substrates. All prints are signed and numbered by the artist and include a certificate of authenticity. Paper prints are shrink wrapped on foam board. Canvas prints are coated with a protective spray. .
