"Mayport Lighthouse" by Carol Thompson
"Near Jacksonville, Florida stands the Mayport lighthouse, on the grounds of the Mayport Naval Air Station. No longer an active aid to navigation, only the small brick tower remains as a tourist attraction."
Artist comment: "While visiting Florida with my husband, I made a point to visit as many of the lighthouses as possible with the limited time and distance allowed. This relatively small lighthouse was a pleasure to paint, even down to the crumbling outer "shell" that exposed its core of bricks. I used oil on canvas to paint it in my studio when I arrived home in Olympia, Washington. As a finishing touch I was pleased to include the large naval vessel in the background." |
