"Queen's Lace"

"Awash in a golden sea of California poppies, the graceful white caps of  'Queen Anne's Lace' seem noble and serene.  In field or garden this wild flower is hardy and prolific; enduring and welcome each fall."

ARTIST'S COMMENT
"I have been familiar with the exquisite summer enchantment of 'Queen Anne's Lace.'  It grew on the fields and farms of my youth.  I believe I was enthralled by the name (White is also one of my favorite colors).  My active imagination pictured an elegant royal, with clumps of these flowers in her hair, and at her throat.  When I perceived that the queen's lace also grew in Washington State; under the same growing circumstances, I planted her seeds in my own yard.  As the flowers bloomed, I painted them.  I brought them indoors to complement colorful bouquets, and I painted them.  Now, my yard will always have some of these delightful charmers.  I feel like a queen!"

Carol Thompson's personal garden is the subject of this series of watercolor paintings entitled "Carol's Garden". These florals are inspired by the many hours of pleasure received from working the rich soil, nurturing the seedlings, and admiring the fragrant blossoms. Her garden is her getaway, a place to clear her mind; to daydream, a place to get in touch with nature, and a place to think, plan, and just relax.
