| "White And Ruffled"
"Two varieties of daffodils make a wonderful contrast in your Spring garden. When they are white and ruffled, the combination can't be beaten!"
ARTIST COMMENT In my garden, I grow daffodils in a "naturalized" setting. That is, randomly placed bulbs of differing colors and types anywhere, next to each other, clumped, or scattered. The wilder the better! This is a small watercolor on Arches 140# hot-pressed watercolor paper. I chose to accent the three white spots with one dazzling ruffled yellow daffodil. The blue green leaves compliment the warms of the background. One bent over leaf in the lower left corner, leads your eye into the painting and completes a '''triangle" composition formed by the three major blooms. The white bud in the upper left quadrant. creates a dynamic tension as it completes the flow of light when combined with the other two white flowers. Carol Thompson's personal garden is the subject of this series of watercolor paintings entitled "Carol's Garden". These florals are inspired by the many hours of pleasure received from working the rich soil, nurturing the seedlings, and admiring the fragrant blossoms. Her garden is her getaway, a place to clear her mind; to daydream, a place to get in touch with nature, and a place to think, plan, and just relax. |
