Artist comment: "On a fine summer afternoon, I took sketch pad, camera, and note book to the Asoria, Oregon waterfront to capture the activities of fishing boats returning from the sea. This beautiful blue fishing vessel was on it's way home laden with a successful day's catch. In my studio later, I prepared a lilac tinted sheet of canson Mi-Teintes paper with a sketch of the compositional elements that make an exciting finished painting. Here, althought the horizon is nearly centered, the 'weight' of color and saturation is done in bands of 'thirds', creating a balance. Painting the background, then foreground, I saved the subject for last and enjoyed the delight of meticulously rendering the details of this beautiful boat.” |
