"The vivid colors and sharp angles convey the excitement of this busy harbor. As the day lengthens and more working boats weave out of the bay, Fort Bragg harbor on the northern California coast will settle down to a quiet rest."

ARTIST COMMENT Shortly after I began learning about pastel painting, I visited Fort Bragg, California. The Harbor is small and nestled between rising tree-covered hills. There was so much to see that the choice of which boat to focus on was nearly impossible. So I decided to paint the whole panarama of boats, with the willy-nilly placement of shapes and colors. In my studio, I chose a sheet of charcoal gray toned Canson Mi Tientes. The vivid impressionistic colors seem to convey the tension of the busy harbor, while the toned paper minimizes the vibrancy. I like this piece!
