On The Cover
Peter
Powell Stunt Kites is a limited edition photolithograph from an original
oil painting by Carol Thompson. Image size is 12" X 9". Paper
Size is 14" X 11". Carol Thompson is an observer and artist of
the Northwest beaches. Her work conveys the illusion of light, depth,
and movement on canvas. The work reproduced here is from her series
on kites. She writes, "I paint as realistically as I can, using
a variety of strokes and tools, from smooth brushwork in the sky to heavy
palette knife on the rocks. Manipulating light, middle and dark values
in the translucent areas and blending color with a soft brush, gives the
effect of light shining through the waves. I use light against dark,
warm against cool, and soft and hard edges to heighten the dramatic effect
of waves, rocks, sky and smooth waters."
Carol Thompson's work has appeared in the book, Contemporary Western Artists and featued in the magazines Southwest Art and Stepping Out. |
